News Roundup: CABP FB Group reaches 300 members | Farewell to Cornerstone North Finchley | King Richard III approves branded products | and more…

HAVING STARTED THE WEEK with a good news story — the relaunch and rebranding of Buxton’s Christian bookshop — we end it with something of a mixed bag: encouraging news of the continued growth of the Christian Authors, Booksellers and Publishers facebook group, but a sad farewell to Cornerstone, North Finchley. On a light-hearted note, King Richard III has given his Royal Seal of Approval to Christian Resources Leicester’s range of souvenirs; and finally for this week, two Christian retailers have announced new initiatives to help counter their financial challenges: read on for the full stories…

CABP FB Group reaches 300 members

ON FRIDAY THIS WEEK Eddie Olliffe, sharp-eyed as ever, noticed that the Christian Authors, Booksellers and Publishers facebook group had just reached another milestone: 300 members. If you’re involved in the trade but not a group member, you’re missing out on some lively discussions as well as some important trade announcements and opportunities to pray for your colleagues in the trade. After Christian Resources Together, it’s the Christian book trade’s best networking opportunity: in Eddie’s words, it’s “the best group on FB!”

Farewell to Cornerstone North Finchley

Cornerstone North Finchley

SAD NEWS emerged from Cornerstone North Finchley on Monday afternoon as they announced the end of 35 years trading due to circumstances surrounding a change in landlord:

***SOME UNFORTUNATE NEWS***
Due to circumstances surrounding a change in landlord we are having to close down Cornerstone Bookshop the week beginning 8th July. As, a charity, we are non-profit and so are unable to afford to move elsewhere. Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the past 35 years!

The shop has to be cleared and vacated by July 11th and much stock has already been returned to suppliers, but the aim is to keep the doors open until all stock is gone. If you’re in the area between 11am and 3pm today, Saturday 6th July, be sure to call in for the farewell party:

***CO[R]NERSTONE’S GOODBYE***
Please come and join us this Saturday 6th July for a drink anytime between 11 & 3 pm! We wish to say goodbye and thank you to everyone who has supported us over the past 35 years and for all the thoughts, prayers and kind words we have received following our announcement.

King Richard III approves branded products

INCREDIBLE BUT TRUE: In an exclusive phone-in interview with BBC Radio Leicester, King Richard III has given his personal seal of approval to the range of King Richard III branded souvenirs on sale in shops in Leicester — including the fairtrade chocolate bars available from Christian Resources Leicester. Shop manager Janette comes in around halfway through explaining their take on the situation.

The SACREd Trust needs you!

SACREdplace, St Austell’s Christian resource  and fairtrade centre, have announced a new initiative for the shop’s supporters: the Friends of SACREd Trust. Dan Balsdon, shop manager, explains in an email introducing the shop’s latest newsletter:

SACREdplace has now begun its 4th year! It’s hard to believe we’ve been here so long, yet at the same time, we have done so much and come so far in such a short time! SACREdplace has come leaps and bounds, and much of that is down to the support we have had from our supporters, customers, volunteers & of course the huge prayer support. This has always been, and will always be so important to us.

As you know we have had some financial issues over the last few months, but I’m pleased to say that with your support and prayer, God has brought us out of the difficulties we were in and although things continue to be challenging, we are in a much stronger position. One thing people have asked about it if there is a way they can regularly give to SACREd Trust, to help towards the cost of the ministry side of SACREd Trust, which involved a lot of giving of time and very rarely gives any return. Now you can. We have now launched ‘Friends of SACREd Trust’, which creates a way that you can give regularly to the ministry of SACREd Trust. Forms are available in the shop and online at http://www.sacredonline.co.uk/sacredtrust. Forms then need to be returned to us at SACREdplace.

Please continue to support SACREdplace, The SACREd Trust, and of course pray for us. We’re continuing to pray through where God wants The SACREd Trust to be going, please pray that the Lord helps us to see the way forwards.

Sarum Books to partner with local churches

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, Mark Clifford of Sarum Books, Salisbury, has announced plans for a new partnership with local churches to take the shop forward “on a firmer financial footing”:

Sarum Books is moving forward gradually towards becoming a charitable trust, supported and owned by the local churches, which will put us on a firmer financial footing. Please pray for this process. We are looking for ambassadors in every church to support and promote the work and ministry of the bookshop….let us know if you are interested…. We want to keep a light on the high street!
