June’s Updates: Keeping the light shining on the UK’s high streets – and beyond!

JUNE’S UKCBD UPDATES revealed a number of casualties but no doubt about it, we still have a vibrant Christian presence that’s keeping the light shining on the UK’s high streets, back streets and marketplaces. I was particularly impressed to see so many shops in this batch of updates on facebook: links to facebook pages/groups are marked facebook — if you like them, you know what to do… and if you’re not using facebook to connect with your customers and fellow retailers, why ever not??

I was especially sad to learn of the closures of Faith Mission’s Berwick-upon-Tweed and Fraserburgh stores, but pleased to learn of plans being discussed for a possible mobile service in the Scottish Borders area; and good news has emerged from Dewsbury, Yorkshire: after almost a year’s closure due to the loss of stock in flood damage caused by split radiators in the severe winter of 2010/2011, The Branch Christian Books has reopened, trading Tuesday to Saturday, 10am – 4pm. Stock is being rebuilt, with “an excellent secondhand section now available”.

Since we’re now in July, the Big UKCBD Spring Clean is officially over, but the updates are ongoing: as always, please give me a shout if you discover any out of date or incorrect entries. Photos and opening times for those shops that don’t have them included are especially welcome.
