A Summer of Changes: Trade Distribution Update

AUTUMN IS UPON US and with it an opportunity to look back over the changes this summer has wrought across the trade’s distribution channels. Whilst less dramatic than last year, this year’s changes have still been enough to disrupt supply and rock the boat for many. To summarise: Authentic Media have switched from in-house distribution to Marston; CLC Wholesale have relocated to Chester and are now wholesaling Premier magazines; Joining the Dots have (as previously reported) ceased trading; and Malcolm Down Publishing has moved to Booksource. For more details, read on…

Authentic move to Marston

Authentic Media In a press release dated 30 June 2015 Authentic Media announced that they were moving distribution to Marston Book Services with effect from 6 July:

All product orders, including back orders, will be handled by Marston from 6 July onwards. Remaining stock will be transferred to the Marston warehouse during July and August, with the full Authentic catalogue available from 1 September 2015.

Steve Mitchell, Authentic’s MD, explains:

We’re delighted to make Marston our new distribution home.  Marston has a proven track record and a clear understanding of the Christian publishing sector so we’re in good hands. We are relocating very quickly as a “too good to miss” opportunity to lease out our existing warehouse arose and we will be working hard to make the transition a smooth one for all concerned.  We are particularly appreciative of Ross Clayton and his team at Marston, they have gone above and beyond what could have been reasonably expected and any delay in supply of product is down to Authentic.

CLC Wholesale relocate to Chester

It’s been long in the planning, first indicated in a press release issued in September 2014, but it’s happened at last: CLC Wholesale have moved and are shipping orders from their new warehouse in Chester, working alongside their business partners and tenants, Eden.co.uk — congratulations to all involved!

There’s still plenty of work to do as staff get used to new IT systems and those who have moved settle into their own new homes at the same time as dealing with the warehouse upheaval. Everyone at both ends of the move, Alresford and Chester, has — in the words of Eddie Olliffe, Interim General Manager — “gone way beyond the call of duty!” Please continue to pray not only for the team that have moved but also for those left behind.

Remarkably, whilst all of this was going on, CLC Wholesale came to the rescue shortly after a surprise announcement by Premier informed retailers that they would no longer be supplying them with Christianity, Youthwork and Childrenswork magazines: the magazines are now available to the trade as part of the normal CLC Wholesale ordering process (firm sale only).

Joining the Dots cease trading

Joining the Dots is now closed for new orders...Joining the Dots has now stopped accepting orders, with final orders taken on Friday 4 September: these are being processed and are expected to ship “in the next few days.” A handful of JTD distributed lines have been taken on by other distributors but for the rest, it’s a question of wait and see. If you’re a member of the Christian Authors, Booksellers and Publishers facebook group, keep an eye on the Publishers and Suppliers list which is being updated as and when new information emerges. Those I’m currently aware of are as follows:

Thank you to Jonathan Bugden for this information.

Time to Shine

Malcolm Down Publishing moves to Booksource

Last but not least, Malcolm Down Publishing, publisher of Mel Menzies‘ latest novel Time to Shine, has joined Muddy Pearl, River Publishing and Wild Goose as part of the small but growing range of Christian publishers distributed by Booksource.

Most MDP titles should also be available via CLC Wholesale: if in doubt, give Malcolm a shout — you’ll find his contact details on every page of the website or in the other usual places:
