  10. BOOKS Plus, Cardiff is a Christian bookshop which opened in 1999, and is situated in the concourse of the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. The shop sells Christian books and also a wide range of general interest books, music, gifts, and Fair Trade foods.

    We are seeking to appoint to the post of Bookshop Manager, someone who has an enthusiasm and passion to serve in this unique environment. The Manager will lead a paid team of 1 or 2 staff members and a pool of approximately 30 volunteer counter staff. The role will involve responsibility for all aspects of running and managing the bookshop. This includes ordering and managing stock, marketing the products and the shop, dealing with deliveries (and supporting staff engaged specifically to carry out this task), overseeing cashing-up and till reconciliation, having responsibility for the computer systems, managing staff and attending evening management committee meetings (once every two months or less). Acquiring an all round knowledge of the shop’s operation is a key responsibility. The successful applicant will have or quickly develop the ability to:

    • identify new products and migrate stock types over time;
    • develop good trusting relationships with suppliers;
    • assess and take calculated risks with new product ranges;
    • assess product success over a reasonable period of time;
    • develop and nuture customer relationships; and
    • provide a friendly ear, putting first customers and their situations.
